About the Riversdale Historical Society

Who Are We?

The Riversdale Historical Society is a 501©(3) non-profit organization that is dedicated to ensuring the preservation, the protection, and the presentation of the Riversdale House Museum and Gardens, as well as the Calvert Family Cemetery, in cooperation with the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission.

Riversdale House Museum is operated as a public museum dedicated to interpreting all aspects of life in 19th-century America, with an emphasis on the lives and experiences of George and Rosalie Calvert, their descendants, and their enslaved and free workforce. This is in addition to other notable residents of the site. The Society's stewardship of this National Historic Landmark is focused on the education of the public through the preservation, study, and interpretation of its owners and occupants, its architecture, and its place in Prince George's County, the State of Maryland, and the United States.
